Communities

Every community in OIOA has its own Home screen, built with the same care. Choose yours in Settings, and change it whenever you like.

OIOA is a humble attempt to bring all of India’s religions and communities under one roof. No community is primary and none is “other”: each has its own Home screen, with the same depth and the same place. On this website, communities are always listed alphabetically.

Methods within communities

Traditions within a community don’t always agree on how to calculate a date, and OIOA doesn’t pick one for you. Where communities follow different methods, you can choose yours: Jain sect calendars, Islamic prayer-time methods and calendar options, the three Parsi calendars, and the two versions of the Nanakshahi calendar. The calendars section explains how each system works and why dates can differ between them.

Your community isn’t here yet?

OIOA is open to adding any community that asks. Christian, Buddhist, Bahá’í and Jewish communities; tribal and Adivasi traditions; regional calendars such as the Malayalam, Tamil, Bengali or Odia solar calendars; specific sampradayas and sects: if your community, tradition or calendar method is missing, please tell us.
