1. Methods, and why practices vary
Calendar, panchang, muhurat, prayer-time, Qibla, holiday and prediction content in OIOA is produced using traditional, astronomical and mathematical methods. These methods are applied with care, but:
- practices and dates vary across communities, sects, regions, families and religious authorities;
- results depend on location, the method or calendar option chosen, and the definitions used (for example, how sunrise is defined or which twilight angle is used);
- some dates depend on observation or announcement, such as moon sighting, or on decisions by a community authority, which no calculation can anticipate with certainty.
2. Follow your own authority
Please follow your own community’s or religious authority (for example, your priest, temple, imam, mosque, moon-sighting committee, sangh, guru, agiary, mobed, gurdwara or granthi) for the dates and times on which you observe festivals, fasts, prayers and rituals. Where OIOA differs from your authority, your authority prevails.
3. Information and guidance only
All content in OIOA is for information and general guidance. It is not a substitute for professional advice, including medical, legal, financial, tax or religious advice. Do not delay seeking professional advice, or disregard it, because of anything in OIOA.
4. Predictions and match-making
Daily predictions and match-making follow traditional practices. They are not scientifically validated, are not guaranteed, and must not be relied on for decisions about health, finances, relationships, marriage, employment or any other important matter. They are offered for those who value the tradition, to use with their own judgement.
5. Holidays and bank closures
Holiday, long-weekend and bank-closure information is compiled from published sources and may be provisional. Governments and banks can add, remove or move holidays, and festival holidays may be revised after moon sighting or other announcements. Please confirm with official notifications and with your employer, school or bank before making plans that depend on a holiday.
6. GST calculator
GST calculator results are indicative. They do the arithmetic for the price and rate entered and do not determine the correct rate, classification or tax treatment for any transaction. GST rates and rules change. Please check results against official rules and notifications (such as the GST portal and CBIC) or consult a qualified tax professional before issuing invoices or filing returns.
7. Qibla and compass
The Qibla direction is calculated from your location. The direction shown on screen depends on your device’s compass, which can be affected by calibration, nearby metal and magnets. For permanent structures such as a mosque or prayer room, follow your community’s established practice.
8. Respect for every faith
Nothing in OIOA is intended to disparage, rank or criticise any faith, community, sect or tradition. Every community is presented with equal care. Where traditions differ, OIOA aims to describe each respectfully and to offer each its own calendar. If you feel anything falls short of this, please tell us through the correction policy or the grievance redressal page.
9. No affiliation
OIOA is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting on behalf of any religious, sectarian or governmental body. Names of institutions, calendars and methods (for example, a calculation method, a calendar authority or a committee) are used only to describe the option offered.
10. Accuracy and errors
We work hard to be accurate, but errors can occur. We welcome corrections and act on them as described in our Community Content & Correction Policy. To the extent permitted by law, OIOA is not liable for any loss arising from reliance on its content, as set out in the Terms of Use.
